G.A.P Ministry

GAP Ministries arranges, facilitates and oversees the short term mission teams that come to help at Canaan. They also raise funding for some of the major construction projects as well as shipping equipment, material and supplies to Haiti. They recently completed a 40 x 70 foot shop building, that includes a woodworking shop, vehicle repair/welding shop, tool depot and a construction material depot. Other large projects that teams will be working on are the infant center and a new medical clinic.

Canaan Christian Community

Canaan Christian Community is located 60 miles north of Port Au Prince in the town of Montrouis. The 90 acre compound sits on a hill overlooking the Caribbean Ocean, a chain of mountains often covered in clouds looms in the background. In 1991 a group of missionaries marched up the barren wind swept hill that had served as a site for voodoo worship and dedicated it to the work of God. What was once a barren hillside community of missionaries living in tents is now 20 plus buildings located under a grove of shade trees.

The main focus of Canaan is to provide a safe haven and family like community for nearly a hundred boys and girls ages. Many of them are orphans having lost one or both parents. Some come from large families and the parents just can't provide for them and others have special medical needs. Here among the mission staff they can grow up to become and achieve what God intended them to be.

Canaan Christian School

Once the kids started arriving it became a necessity to provide them with a good education. Putting them in school outside of Canaan was not an option. Establishing our own school with a Christian-based education was the direction we chose. To do this we chose  to go with the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) curriculum and program.

A.C.E. is a recognized an accredited teaching program used around the world by missions and Christian home schools. Almost every year we have single men and women and some married couples from North America come to be teachers at our school along side our Haitian instructors. Our Canaan schools teach in English so it makes it easy for foreign missionaries to come and help. Our students also learn Creole, French and Spanish is optional.

Canaan Medical Center

Canaan Medical Center is our newest outreach and was established in September 2007. Right now it is a small community clinic but plans our underway to build a new medical center that can not only serve our kids but the large community that has grown up around us. Fund raising is underway and we will get started on this project as soon as the needed funds have been given.

Canaan Agricultural Center

This is a new outreach that serves several purposes. First we need to raise some of our own food and have been doing well with rabbit and hog production. We also need to establish gardens to raise fruits and vegetables, we have not been successful at this yet but plans our developing as to how we can achieve this. Secondly we want to establish tree nurseries and be able to help reforest Haiti's landscape this is achievable now and we should be able to get this started soon.

Canaan Technical School

The technical school was started  in 2006 because was realized that even though we were giving the kids a good education, for many college would not be a possibility. Learning a skill-oriented job in the service sector or becoming an entrepreneur would be a better option for many.

We have enlisted skilled trade people and some from our own staff to be instructors. It is hoped that we can bring individuals down from the U.S. and Canada to also do intensive 1-2 week classes. We can't offer all these yet but hope to have classes in computer, sewing, beauty school, art, welding. mechanics, carpentry, furniture/cabinet making, body shop, electrical and plumbing.
